Having filled your Back Porch Compost Tumbler with material, you can leave it alone for a few days to allow the process to begin.
After that you should aim to turn it several times each day to enusre that the composting bacteria get as much oxygen as possible.
This also helps to prevent the edges drying out too much.
You want your bin to heat up as soon as possible and this tumbling or rotating helps to achieve that. The heat generated kills off weed seeds and diseased material and helps to produce a good nutrient rich compost.
By about two to three weeks hve passed you should start to see quite a course compost has been created. this can be used straight away or allowed to mature into a better richer product.
